After sacking Obama’s order to allow students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms that align with their gender identity, President Trump faced criticism from people, such as Caitlyn Jenner and Jackie Evancho, for appearing to go back on his promise to protect LGBTQ rights.
According to Caitlin Emma Feb. 22, 2017, on Politico.com, Trump made this move with the Supreme Court set to discuss transgender rights next month.
The issue of transgender bathrooms has driven a lot of controversy recently. Trump’s supporters say this is a win for state’s rights, while others argue that this is a major attack on transgender rights, Daniel Trotta wrote in Reuters Feb. 23, 2017.
At the bottomline, the government should never appear to be a “bully.” Whether the Supreme Court deems this within state or federal jurisdiction, the government must work to protect the rights of all people.
However, bathrooms may be getting in the way of other issues, especially in education. America must not lose sight of other issues in the midst of bathroom controversy.
