The ongoing debate surrounding Senate Bill 6, or the “bathroom bill” may be pulling lawmakers away from more pressing issues in the Capitol of Texas.
In an article by Christopher Neely on CommunictyImpact.com on Feb. 17, Mayor Steve Adler of Austin said “We are in desperate need of the state legislature to focus on education reform and finance reform. That is something that would touch everyone.”
Lauren McGaughy and Robert T. Garrett pointed our that rather than tackling problems in the child welfare system, low funding in public schools, and rising tuition in the college realm, the first issue the government focused on was who can use the restroom where in their Jan. 11 article on DallasNews.com.
While the “bathroom bill” takes center stage, educational matters are swept aside. Restrooms have been in the spotlight for long enough. It’s time for the government to focus on matters at the heart of education.
